Gas fireplace insert installation on the Eastside.

Sound Fire Solutions handles gas fireplace insert installation from start to finish: measuring your firebox, choosing the insert, running a new aluminum flex liner, bringing in the gas line, and finishing the surround. An insert turns a drafty wood burning fireplace into a sealed, efficient gas heater that lights with a switch or remote.

Real heat from the fireplace you already have.

An open wood fireplace sends most of its heat up the chimney, and it pulls warm air out of the room even when it is not in use. A direct vent gas insert slides into the existing firebox and seals it behind glass. It draws combustion air from outside through the chimney, so your room air stays in the room, and it puts real heat into the house at the push of a button.

Sized to your firebox and your room.

We measure the firebox opening, depth, and the taper of the back and sides before we recommend anything, because an insert has to physically fit and still leave room for the liner connections. Then we match the heat output to the room. A small den and an open great room need very different ratings, and an oversized insert just cycles on and off.

A new liner inside the old chimney.

A gas insert cannot vent through a bare masonry flue. We run an aluminum flex liner system from the insert to the top of the chimney, either two flexible liners (one for exhaust, one for fresh air) or a co-linear kit, depending on the insert and the size of the flue. Then we cap and seal the top so the chimney stays weather tight.

Gas line, permit, and startup.

Most wood fireplaces never had gas, so we run a new gas line from the meter or the nearest branch, sized for the insert and anything else on that line. The gas line and the insert are permitted and inspected, and we carry the permit through to final sign-off. At startup we test the flame and the draft, set up your remote, and show you how to run it.

Gas fireplace insert questions.

Short answers to what homeowners ask us before the first site visit.

Question 1 of 7

How much does gas fireplace insert installation cost?

Most of our insert installations come in between $5,200 and $8,500, with the insert, liner, gas line, permit, and labor included. Where yours lands depends mostly on the brand and size of the insert, how far the gas line has to run, and the front and surround you pick. After a site visit, you get a fixed, itemized quote.

Question 2 of 7

Will a gas insert fit my fireplace?

Most masonry wood fireplaces can take an insert. We measure the opening, depth, and taper of the firebox and check the size of the flue. If a standard insert will not fit, a smaller model, a new fireplace, or a gas log set may be the better choice.

Question 3 of 7

Do I need a new chimney liner for a gas insert?

Yes. Gas inserts are approved to vent through a liner that runs the full height of the chimney, not through the bare masonry flue. We use aluminum flex liners, one for exhaust and one for fresh air, and the liner is part of every insert installation we do.

Question 4 of 7

How long does a gas insert installation take?

Most inserts are installed in 4-6 hours after we arrive at your house.

Question 5 of 7

Can a gas fireplace insert heat my house?

A gas insert is a real heater. Sized correctly, it can keep the room it is in comfortable and often the rooms around it. It is usually not a replacement for the furnace in the whole house.

Question 6 of 7

Will a gas insert work during a power outage?

Many inserts still light and heat without power, using a standing pilot or a battery backup, although the blower will not run. If outages are common where you live, tell us and we will choose a model that runs without power.

Question 7 of 7

Do I need a permit for a gas fireplace insert?

Yes. The gas line and the insert need a permit and an inspection. We file the permit and carry it through to final sign-off so you are not chasing it.
